1. What is your innovation? Please describe what it is, its purpose, etc.

ILostMyJob.com is a “pre-job search” site. Its purpose is to prepare a person in job transition to create

and/or pursue career opportunities by building necessary skills and experience, reinforcing positive

attitudes and approaches, and acting in targeted and goal-oriented ways.

The website is organized into two parts:

  1. A rapidly growing collection of expert articles and videos that deal with the emotional, physical and mental aspects of job transition; and

  2. A widening selection of links and productivity tools that help people take action, depending on where they are in there job transition process.

All content and interactivity is organized according to four steps in a standardized model for successful

job transition: Get Help, Explore, Take Steps, and Land a Job. The emphasis is on people who have

lost their jobs, are involuntarily unemployed, or taking steps to getting back to productive employment.

A free account will allow a website user (member) to access and manage enhanced video content,

participate in the online community, and take advantage of career development and job search

management tools.

Additionally, the website allows a group of users called “Career Doctors” – who are experienced

career services professionals – to respond to visitor questions and make the content more personally relevant. The list of Career Doctors is increasingly geographically and professionally diverse, helping to make strong foundational content more localized and personally relevant to site users.

The ILostMyJob.com website is highly social and includes strong integration with WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, among others. These social media, along with weekly informational and inspirational podcasts, allow users to more naturally share information and interact with experts, organizations, and businesses who deal with coping with job loss and job layoff recovery. Regular broadcasts of fresh, quality information is designed to set a pace of continuity for those in job transition, providing reasons to pay durable attention to job search goals and activities.

2. Why do you consider your innovation to be innovative?

ILostMyJob.com combines modern rich and social media with a structured, humanistic approach

aimed at fully preparing people for success in job transition. Theoretically, the ILostMyJob.com

approach provides a foundation based on the hierarchy of human needs, and constructs a process for

preparing a person in job transition to advance to the next career opportunity conscientiously.

Information is delivered in both the written context as well as via an innovative video delivery system,

to ensure that the broadest array of learning methods are utilized. Throughout the site, video is

positioned next to relevant interactive features, aimed at binding learning and action. An important

characteristic of the website lies in how it aims to bring relevant expertise and a steady continuity to

people's online job transition activities, in an environment designed to be personally engaging, stress

reducing, and self-paced.

3. Is your innovation unique or a variation of something that already exists? If it is not unique, please provide a list of similar products (including URLs if possible) and describe how you believe yours is different.

ILostMyJob.com is original content of which small pieces can be found elsewhere (such as resume

writing tips, personal strategies, etc). To our knowledge, however, no other site uses the same

developmental, humanistic approach or interactive video delivery as ILostMyJob.com.

4. What influence or benefit does your innovation have on the careers industry? Who does it help and how (career professionals, job seekers, etc.)?

ILostMyJob.com provides a structured approach to getting ready for the job search, an often missed

step, as many people in job transition jump to the job search boards unprepared for moving forward.

There is a place in this structure for content, video, and services from any kind of career services

company under the sun. It is an inclusive, constructive environment.

ILostMyJob.com puts systematic tools and mindset in one central location. This centralization and

virtualization, enhanced by personalized video and simple business systems integration, enables job

transition professionals to efficiently and effectively assist a growing client base.

The customized ILostMyJob.com video system allows not only the central production and distribution

of video content, such as Career Doctor or the Motivation Monday podcasts or a series of educational

clips, but also user-submitted video by career professionals, who can create video “stations” or

“communities of special interest” around highly focused or local topics, such as effective interviewing.

1. What is your innovation? Please describe what it is, its purpose, etc.

Our innovation is Candidate Next Step (www.candidatenextstep.com). Candidate Next Step (CNS) was created to solve one of the greatest challenges Staffing and Recruiting firms have… helping the 95% of job seekers that they cannot currently place into jobs. When a recruiting firm signs up for a CNS Career Portal they receive a website that is fully customized to their firm. The Career Portal allows job seekers working with the firm to register for free and have access to dozens of tools, services and products that will help that person find employment. CNS in turn not only helps the job seeker in their search but additionally benefits the recruiting firm by:

  • Creating positive feedback for the firm
  • Receiving referrals from happy job seekers
  • New profit centers through the revenue sharing that occurs in CNS when job seekers purchase or take actions within the Career Portal that create revenue.

Our system allows owners with no technical background to set up their Career Portal in less than 10 minutes.

While CNS is currently being offered to recruiting firms, we anticipate offering this product to career counselors and HR professionals, as well.  They could utilize their site very similar to staffing firms.

See Flow Chart…

2. Why do you consider your innovation to be innovative?

Our business model has never been brought to the market.  As an owner of a recruiting firm for over thirty years, it has always concerned me that I cannot help the job seekers who need me the most.  My clients will only hire individuals with education, expertise, experience and stability.  Candidate Next Step will change the business model of all staffing and recruiting firms who can now assist 100% of the job seekers who need help with their job search.  No one has brought a tool like this to the market or has ever partnered with staffing and recruiting firms to help the 95% of job seekers those firms currently do not place in a job.

3. Is your innovation unique or a variation of something that already exists? If it is not unique, please provide a list of similar products (including URLs if possible) and describe how you believe yours is different.

The closest comparison offered would be www.beyond.com. We are different due to the fact that we are offering many more unique services including:

  • Resume Builder which leads to the Career Advisor

The Career Advisor analyzes the resume and provides interviewing advice regarding the following areas:

  1. Gaps of employment

  2. Duration of Employment

  3. Last Time Employed

  4. Total Years of Employment

  • Free Resume Review

We provide a free resume review.  If the job seeker requests a tune-up or re-write, they are called by an expert and these services are very competitively priced.  The experts writing the resumes all have experience in the recruiting and staffing profession placing people in jobs.

  • Resume Distribution Services

  • Aggregate Job Boards (over 1,000)

  • Free Weekly Training Webinars - each webinar is followed by a question and answer session

  • Free Resume Cards used for networking purposes

  • Customer Service Team to assist job seekers

4. What influence or benefit does your innovation have on the careers industry? Who does it help and how (career professionals, job seekers, etc.)?

Our program can help job seekers at all levels including those who normally are not placed by staffing and recruiting firms. These are the same job seekers who can afford the services of a career counselor or other paid services. They have a level of trust with the staffing or recruiting firm who referred them to the Career Portal which makes them more likely to utilize the many resources in our Career Portal.

A job seeker can enter one of our Career Portals and get 100% of the resources they need in their search for FREE. We provide the job seekers with a weekly email entitled “THE CAREER ADVISOR” that provides them with the following:

  1. Hot Topic

  2. Tip of the Week

  3. Suggested Reading

  4. Announce this weeks FREE Job Seeker Webinars

  5. Did you know?

Carole Martin of The Interview Coach:

Job Interview Brand (AKA Job Winning Interview Brand) -

www.jobinterviewbrand.com

Where information can be found:

www.jobinterviewbrand.com

Tutorial is located at: http://www.jobwinningbrand.com/tutorial.htm

1. What is your innovation? Please describe what it is, its purpose, etc.

This is an online, interactive job interview tool that walks job seekers through a step by step process to create their own personal interview brand. After completing the steps by filling in  their personal information, they are presented with a complete five point statement, covering their education, experiences, area of expertise, strengths, work ethic, personal traits and personality – by simply pressing a button. It’s magic!

This 5 point statement can be used to answer open-ended interview questions such as: “Tell me about yourself,” Why should we hire you?” What makes you different than the last candidate?”

In addition there is a “Bonus” that consists of a methodology I have devised using the five fingers in order to remember the points on their statement.

There is an added bonus to help the job seeker identify his or her work values so that they can establish criteria for the interview and whether the job meets their criteria.

Other bonuses include tips and information to answer the question, “What motivates you?”

2. Why do you consider your innovation to be innovative?

For the first time I am sharing my proprietary method for coaching job seekers. It is the methodology I use to coach other coaches as well as my personal clients. I have found this tool to be the difference between doing well in an interview, opposed to not sounding confident and sure of oneself.

It is an interactive “Do it yourself” tool that is very reasonably priced so that everyone has access to what was once only shared with those who could afford a coach.

3. Is your innovation unique or a variation of something that already exists? If it is not unique, please provide a list of similar products (including URLs if possible) and describe how you believe yours is different.

As far as I know it is an original idea that has not been done before. Especially as an online tool that can be accessed immediately and used that day in an interview if necessary – not preferred, but possible.

4. What influence or benefit does your innovation have on the careers industry? Who does it help and how (career professionals, job seekers, etc.)?

This tool can be utilized by job seekers preparing for his or her own interview as well as a career coach/counselor helping with the interview preparation for a client. There is an option for career coaches/counselors to purchase packages of 10 to be used with 10 clients who are going through coaching.

The method that has been used to date is to ask these questions of the candidate, write them down and then rewrite the 5-point statement in a succinct statement the candidate can use.

This tool revolutionizes this process and makes it easier on the user by providing “hints” and helps the user fill in the blanks. The next step is to simply push a button and the statement is summarized for you.

1. What is your innovation? Please describe what it is, its purpose, etc.

BOOK: The Twitter Job Search Guide        Published by JIST, March 2010

PURPOSE

  • To break down Twitter myths and misconceptions.
  • To demonstrate that Twitter is a supremely useful business application used by far more people than celebs and techies and by a rapidly increasing number of businesses, agencies, and recruiters.
  • To persuade readers to embrace that Twitter is the network "barrier buster"  -- one of the most powerful, easy to navigate, least stressful, most connecting methods of business networking for job search and career-building available today -- on-line or off.
  • To show innovative career branding and 140 "short-form" communication strategies specific to Twitter.
  • To show how concise short-form writing can redefine and power career communications to become precision Twit-fit resumes and Ten-Tweet cover letters for distracted, multitasking decision makers in a Web 2.0+ world.
  • To share a wide array of the latest tools and apps that can be leveraged for job search and career management.
  • To reveal how job seekers can use the power of Twitter, even if they choose not to tweet!
  • To deliver inspiring stories of real world job seekers who found work via Twitter.
  • To introduce a viable 15-minutes-a-day tweeting methodology.
  • To prove that, in the spirit of Twitter and social media, more than 100 in-the-trenches contributors in all areas of the careers field (coaches, writers, recruiters, HR, college pros, branding experts, social media thought leaders, employers, and more) could coalesce to share know-how that became a compendium of Twitter career-specific knowledge that exists no where else.

2. Why do you consider your innovation to be innovative?

Twitter itself is innovative.

…Yet, there exists no other comprehensive book that pioneers new ways to use Twitter for job search, networking, and career-building. We decided to change that.

Twitter facts:

The #1 fastest-growing opportunity for employment (per Indeed.com) … the word of the year by the American Dialect Society … major publications such as Time magazine featuring covering stories such as “How Twitter Will Change the Way We Live” … more than 105 million users with 300K new ones signing up every day … 55 million tweets a day … more than 1 million job openings tweeted out every month at a fraction of the cost of traditional sites like Monster.com … and more.

…Yet, for the majority of job seekers and career professionals, Twitter is a virtually untapped job search resource! We were determined to change that.

  • This book tackles a true phenomenon of our time, from the angle of job search and career management, and is written by three in-the-trenches, experienced career coaches and job search/resume/branding experts.

  • The book shows how proven job-search and career strategies can be transformed to become Twitter-specific power tools.

  • The book is not a mere "how to" of tools and apps. It takes the reader through the entire career continuum, from a Twitter perspective. From the need for a brand and subject matter niche so one can truly express opportunity attracting branding, to how to determine targets, to how to attract recruiters, to how to interact with influencers and employers, to how to blend personal and professional personas, to how to build a Twitter profile, and much more.

  • There are resume and cover letter strategies (Twit-Fit resumes and Ten-Tweet cover letters) in the book that exist nowhere else and that were designed specifically to show how Twitter short-form communication can power the career documents needed today, in a "blink" society where one has mere seconds to make an impression.

  • The book goes "beyond branding" to showcase a "brand to land plan" that moves job seekers from thinking about responsibilities to strategizing the connection between brand, career brand, value, and that value's ROI to their target.

  • The book develops new language (as in the above points) as well as transforming the 160-character Twitter bio into a brand, value-packed "160me" power-play statement for the Twitter profile.

  • The book uses proven innovations like the strategies from 15secondpitch.com to help with branding and value discovery and communication in the 160me and tweets.

  • There are detailed chapters on apps, tools, and Twitter processes like RTs etc – among the most comprehensive available at the time of publication. We also show ways to research companies, industries, people, targets, and more – especially for job search and interviews.

  • The concept of Tweeting for a job in 15 minutes a day is new – we deliberately formed the process so that people who are afraid of getting sucked in will know they don't have to be and that people who want to spend too much time on Twitter will have an understanding of why they actually shouldn't.

  • As stated in the "purpose" section above, we gathered over a dozen job seekers who actively or passively found jobs via Twitter, using a variety of strategies. They were frank and generous in sharing their experiences.

  • We reached out to the careers community at large, requesting wisdom from colleagues who used Twitter for themselves an/or clients – We asked them to submit, in 140-character tweet format, what works, what doesn't, what's emerging, etc. More than 100 contributors submitted more than 400 tweets, of which we chose 140 for an appendix of experts' advice (in tweets).

  • We reached out to leading experts and invited them to help shape chapters in their disciplines – creating pitches, Twitter backgrounds, value propositions, and more.

  • We interviewed many recruiters and gathered their insider secrets of ways they use Twitter to source, and how they like to be contacted. The information in that alone is worth the read!

  • The book is a multi-function career-building manual – it can be used as a Twitter guide, but also as a field guide to building a brand / value networking presence on and off-line, as well as developing a suite of powerful CareerCom documents and pitches (career communications).

  • We have a companion website that will be a source of important new information as changes happen in Twitter processes and policies. (http://www.TwitterJobSearchGuide.com).

3. Is your innovation unique or a variation of something that already exists? If it is not unique, please provide a list of similar products (including URLs if possible) and describe how you believe yours is different.

There are books that exist about Twitter, but most are not about job search.

The books that do touch upon Twitter and job search are e-books, or are significantly shorter and do not have the range/depth of The Twitter Job Search Guide.

Here is a link to an Amazon search for "books: Twitter for job search" – only one page of books appears and only two are specific to Twitter alone – both are e-books or Kindle and are $5.00 and $1.00. The Twitter Job Search Guide is clearly the only one of its kind: a seminal, significant, and serious (but light-hearted) work!

LINK: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias=stripbooks&field-keywords=twitter+for+job+search&x=0&y=0

4. What influence or benefit does your innovation have on the careers industry? Who does it help and how (career professionals, job seekers, etc.)?

  • The book will have a significant effect on careers professionals and job seekers who chose to embrace Twitter because it is a "turn key," how-to manual that presents a holistic strategy for organically combining brand, value, messaging, strategies, and techniques into a seamless Twitter job search or career plan.

  • Careers professionals will learn new resume, cover letter and other writing techniques (CareerCom) that will generate effective communication on- and off-line as well as new revenue through the development of these new documents.

  • Careers professionals will also develop new revenue streams through training clients in these techniques, strategizing and writing branded 160me profiles, training clients to research companies and influencers on Twitter, and more.

  • The power of short-form communication, as promoted / explained in the book, will seep into our colleagues’ work styles and deliver greater clarity and precision that will lead to more effective “CareerCom” documents and coaching.

  • Job seekers will benefit from career professionals trained in cutting-edge techniques that will position job seekers as “A” candidates and thought leaders—long before Twitter becomes mainstream.

  • Career pros and jobseekers will be early adopters who will own their niche on Twitter, attract attention and opportunities, and build the best case for significant compensation due to their expert / innovator status.

Career Worksheets for All Professions - www.CareerCatapult.com click on "Career Worksheets" in right side bar

1. What is your innovation? Please describe what it is, its purpose, etc.

Career Worksheets for All Professions CD - The Career Worksheets For All Professions CD contains profession-specific client intake worksheets for 2200+ positions used around the world by resume writers and career coaches directly, and by job seeker clients indirectly.

The Career Worksheets help resume writers and career coaches gather all of their clients’ critical background information and expertise—specific to their individual professions and positions—needed to create winning resumes, manage career coaching, and streamline their entire work process—whether they work with clients in person or virtually. It supersedes the “generic worksheet” previously used to garner client information.

Each profession-specific, comprehensive client worksheet includes an employment section, numerous resume keywords (Areas of Expertise section), personal attributes, and responsibility and achievement questions—for over 2,200 positions. The resume keywords they contain include over 18,000 keywords—the largest compilation in the world (the most recently published keywords book includes only 2500). In addition to the profession-specific questions, each worksheet includes staff management questions (if applicable) and generic questions. And the type of questions each worksheet includes are direct questions and questions with optional answers making it easier for clients to supply related information. Plus the questions are asked in resume jargon, so that the resume writer can simply take the question and answer and make easy resume bullets to write resumes.

For ease of use by career professionals, when the Career Worksheets CD Version 4 is inserted into the computer, you will find three main folders: one by profession (see list below) which contains the position category worksheets within it, one alphabetically by position category (see list at end of this document), and the last folder contains worksheets with only the profession-specific questions (to use for clients with a myriad of experience and/or for resume writers to use with a generic worksheet).

2. Why do you consider your innovation to be innovative?

Resume Writers and Career Coaches themselves describe it as “groundbreaking, revolutionary, a miracle, brilliant, a pioneering endeavor, can’t live without it, invaluable, outstanding, comprehensive, an extremely valuable tool, the best single piece of work, superb,” and more. They say it “created a standard where there was none in the industry.”

The Career Worksheets have been endorsed by top industry professionals, including Wendy Enelow (CMA Founder), Deb Dib (the holder of the most certifications worldwide), Linda Matias (when she was NRWA President) and others. Numerous other endorsements are contained on the website.

Authors and publishers warranted their importance by including them or the questions they contain in published books, including Interview Magic by Susan Britton-Whittcomb (JIST Publishing, 2005), The Complete Job Search Guide for Latinos by Murray Mann (Baron’s Publishing, 2005), as well as my Step-by-Step Resumes: Build an Outstanding Resume in 10 Easy Steps! book and CD (JIST Publishing, 2006).

3. Is your innovation unique or a variation of something that already exists? If it is not unique, please provide a list of similar products (including URLs if possible) and describe how you believe yours is different.

The only thing that comes close are contributed worksheets found in the National Resume Writer’s Association’s Toolbox and a list of professions with 20 questions contained in Career Management Alliance’s Secret Room. Up until CMA requested I provide some of my worksheets, their resource only included types of questions to ask of clients by general professions. My Worksheets are by position category (each includes a number of related positions), not just by profession. Other than these two organization sites, Career Worksheets cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

4. What influence or benefit does your innovation have on the careers industry? Who does it help and how (career professionals, job seekers, etc.)?

It helps both the careers industry and job seekers in several ways.

Career Professionals:

  1. Helps Resume Writers and Career Coaches garner all of the critical client information they need to write superb resumes and coach their clients.
  2. Those who use my worksheets have informed me that they have increased productivity by 70% and helped grow their business by 500%.
  3. Significantly decreases time spent on each client—whether they work in person or remotely.
  4. Helps turn client resumes or career coaching sessions around in record time...no matter how complex.
  5. Avoids having to conduct research as it is completely done for the career professional (including the complete Occupational Handbook).
  6. Helps career professionals be in the know all the time with information on all professions available at their fingertips. Savvy professionals do a keyword search on their computer when talking to a prospective client, which shows they are “in the know” and it increases their credibility and value proposition, helping them to land more prospects as clients.
  7. Because up to five times as many clients can be handled in the same amount of time, it helps career professionals earn much more.
  8. Prevents or reverses burnout.

Job Seeker Clients:

Resume writers know how difficult it is to obtain the right information from clients to write their resumes and coach them. That’s because clients find it difficult to answer general questions related to their work. The Career Worksheets help clients to be able to inform us of exactly what their responsibilities and achievements are specific to each of their positions. Because I’ve spent thousands of hours researching every position possible to put together this product, I’ve left no stone unturned in asking all of the right profession-specific questions of job seekers. As a result, clients are able to easily provide this information so we can do our jobs well in helping them catapult their careers. The end result helps them land jobs more quickly, putting them in the top 2% of candidates considered for positions.
