CDI Elist Rules & Etiquette

Welcome to CDI’s elists (cdichat@googlegroups.com, cdiresume@googlegroups.com, and cdicareer@googlegroups.com). Following are the rules and etiquette required to participate in the lists and ensure everyone has a fun, safe, and rewarding experience. By subscribing to and participating in any of these elists, users hereby agree to be bound by and warrant their full compliance with the following terms of participation.

CDI does reserve the right to suspend or terminate membership to the elist for members who violate rules and guidelines.

ABOUT THE LISTS: CDI has previously tried to have unmoderated lists but they rapidly became out of control with inappropriate comments or flaming, unrelated topics and posts, and extensive member complaints regarding 'too much unnecessary email' from the lists. Because of this the lists are moderated in an attempt to make sure that only relevant content, with minimal repetition, reaches your inbox. Please make our job of providing quality content easier by abiding by the rules and etiquette listed below. Your cooperation is necessary to ensure your messages are posted in a timely manner.

Rules & Guidelines

  • Keep topics to association-related topics (career, resume, business, and client services).
  • Make sure to select the right list for the subject (see categories above) and send your post to the one most appropriate list. Sending your post to multiple lists or the wrong list will delay approval of your message.
  • Keep it friendly and conversational. Defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal materials are strictly prohibited. CDI has a zero tolerance policy for flaming.
  • Avoid posting commercial messages and advertisements. If you believe a person would have interest for your product or service, contact him/her privately off-list.
  • Pay close attention to all items listed in the disclaimer and legal rules below as information posted on the lists is available to all registered members, and comments are subject to libel, slander, and antitrust laws.
  • Remember that CDI and other elist participants have the right to reproduce postings to this elist with proper attribution.
  • Maintain CDI membership to avoid list cancellation.

Elist Etiquette

  • Include a signature tag on all messages which includes, at minimum, your full name.
  • Review all responses to a topic before creating your post to avoid repetition and redundancy. Multiple 'same' response posts will not be posted to minimize mail in member inboxes.
  • Create clear and concise subject lines that effectively convey your topic to ensure you receive the best chance at a response.
  • Only send a message to the entire list when it contains information that everyone can benefit from. Send messages such as "thanks for the information" or "me, too" to individuals--not to the entire list. Do this by using your e-mail application's forwarding option and typing in or cutting and pasting in the e-mail address of the individual to whom you want to respond.
  • When sending job / referral opportunity announcements, please note that all "the opportunity has been filled" posted will not be posted. Such actions are necessary since the post will relate to only a small percentage of the membership and our goal, as always, is to minimize the amount of unnecessary or unrelated email that members receive from CDI.
  • Do not send administrative messages, such as “remove me from the list” through the elist. Instead, contact CDI at info@careerdirectors.com.

NOTE: All prior topic threads can be searched by visiting each of the CDI Groups on the internet. You will need a free Google account using your registered email to gain access. You can then search for topics that have been covered, which will reduce constant repetitive posting of the same request (sometimes the same topic appears two times in a 7-day period)
