1. Why is CDI running a Membership Recruitment Campaign?

Like any dynamic, growing organization, we want you, our members, to be successful and to receive continued value from your membership. One way to keep our group dynamic and energized is to expand our membership base so that we can offer an even greater diversity of experience and expertise.

Our goal for 2008 is to build our community from 300 to 500 members across the world, which we can do with your help. We have been fortunate to find our "ideal" members being drawn to CDI because of the many unique opportunities that we offer. We also know the best way to find more of the same is to ask our current "ideal" members.

2. What’s in it for me in helping the Membership Recruitment Campaign be successful?

Do you want the politically correct answer or do you really want to know what's in it for you? Knowing the forthrightness of our members we will give you both. The PC answer is that you want to help us out because you are truly helping yourself out at the same time: you're helping add to an already diverse group of professionals and you will ultimately benefit from their membership. It takes a village, right?

Now, what's really in it for you? We are glad you asked and have put together some great packages for anyone who helps CDI Get Super in our 2008 Membership Campaign.

  • For each new member you recruit, you will receive $20 in CDI Super Bucks (a gift certificate good for any CDI purchase).

  • If you recruit five new members, you will also receive a CDI T-shirt.

  • If you recruit ten new members, you will also receive a CDI Goodie Bag – CDI Coffee Mug, Interview Pocket RX Book, and a 30-minute private business coaching session with Aricia LaFrance, Heather Wieshlow, or Laura DeCarlo ($75 value).

  • The grand-prize winner—the person who brings in the most new members—will also receive a free annual membership (valued at $180).

Consider what you could win:

10 new members = $200 in CDI gift certificates, CDI T-shirt, CDI coffee mug, Interview Pocket RX book, and a 30-minute coaching session. That’s over $305 in prizes!

Be the grand prize winner and you’ll receive all that PLUS AN ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP!

3. Who would benefit from receiving a Membership Invitation to CDI?

The CDI family has expert members around the globe from a variety of related disciplines. This diverse group is made up of resume writers, career coaches, job developers, government professionals, college and university counselors, corrections and military personnel, HR experts, recruiters, association career center directors, and job board managers. Some of our members are brand new to the industry, while others have been in the industry for decades, and some are not career professionals at all but are seeking an Affiliate Membership to promote their products, services, and programs to career professionals.

When extending a Membership Invitation, think of individuals that you know that work in any of these roles and could benefit from the many resources and contacts that CDI offers. Don't forget to look at your social network such as LinkedIn.com and Facebook.com.

We are also happy to talk to you about any ideas that you might have in creating Membership Partnerships with businesses or associations that could utilize our various resources and programs.

4. What are the benefits of belonging to CDI?

There are so many ways to benefit that it truly depends on what is important to you or the person you invite!

It could be the trusted brain bank resource of CDI’s global members who are available 24/7 through the listserv and Ask the Expert list to share advice, brainstorm, and help solve problems.

It could be the time-saving value of information at your fingertips through CDI’s outstanding resource library, Mega Trends research reports, and weekly e-newsletter.

Or perhaps it’s the chance to prove and validate your expertise with CDI’s numerous industry certification, training, and award competition programs.

CDI offers the greatest number of resources available to career professionals regardless of the goal. Whether you seek to enhance your qualifications, ramp up or start-up your practice, position yourself as an expert, or develop a solid network you will meet your goals with CDI.

For further information, see a complete list of our Top Five Reasons to Join CDI or visit www.careerdirectors.com/benefits.htm, which is a terrific page to send your invitees!

5. What if someone already belongs to another professional career organization?

Members with multiple industry affiliations tell us again and again that CDI membership pays for itself within the first week through the wealth of rich information and resources available. The one regret ever mentioned by these individuals was the hesitation they had in joining another association. The response is, “I had no idea and wish I had joined sooner.”

While every association has its own unique benefits, CDI truly works for its members. CDI makes sure that you have access to the news, tools, and resources to stay up to date while maximizing your time, enhancing your expertise, and increasing your income. We are here to guide you effortlessly through challenging markets, new trends, and globalization. At the same time we are proud to be known as “one of the friendliest organizations around.”

In fact, how our members feel about CDI is clear through our retention rate of 98% year after year by exceeding the expectations of our members. There are many organizations, but there is only one that cares about your success like CDI does and as always, our members say it best with their testimonials, which you can view at www.careerdirectors.com/mm.htm

6. How much does it cost to become a member of CDI?

The investment to become part of Career Directors International is only $150 for a year or $275 for two years. If you do the math it equals as low as 38˘ a day. If you save only one hour of time in a year by using the many resources that are offered with your membership, it actually pays for itself. Being a member of the CDI family allows you to avoid wasting time, answer client questions with ease and stay on top of the latest career trends and resources. In addition, you will have the opportunity to make connections around the world that can help you build your business and create friendships that will last a lifetime.

Affiliate members, or service providers, are $295.

7. How can I tell people about CDI?

Sharing your experience about CDI is one of the most effective ways to tell prospective members about the many benefits that CDI has to offer. The Membership Committee has created several marketing pieces to help you have these conversations. The first document is the Membership Invitation Letter, which offers a general overview to prospective invitees. The other marketing piece is the Top Five Reasons to Join CDI, which illustrates the many benefits in becoming a member of CDI.

Here are a couple other guidelines to remember that will help you in having discussions with prospective members.

  • Focus on the value rather than the price

  • Find out the specific needs of potential members

  • Explain how membership will benefit them

  • Appeal to their emotions in describing membership experiences.

8. I’m ready to promote the Membership Campaign, what do I do?

Congratulations, for taking the step forward to support your success and Career Directors International. We have made it easy for you to invite prospective members by giving you a five step process that you can follow.

  • Step #1- Read through the FAQs about the Membership Campaign

  • Step #2- Participate in the CDI Membership Recruitment Kick-off Teleclass on Tuesday, 9/16/08 at 4:00 PM EDT

  • Step #3- Create an email list of people that you think could benefit from joining CDI

  • Step #4- Send the Membership Invitation Letter and Top Five Reasons to Join CDI to them with a personal message (or give them the URL to these documents).

  • Step #5 – Make sure you tell your invitee to list your name as the referrer in the ‘special instructions’ box on the registration form at www.careerdirectors.com/cart.asp.

  • Step #6 - Follow-up with an email or phone call and enjoy the satisfaction of contributing to your success

You can also send a colleague a link to a great article or resource that you received from CDI and then let them know what you've gotten out of your membership. You can send them to the benefits page at www.careerdirectors.com/benefits.htm with a personal note of how it has helped you and your business to grow.

You can also talk about the Top Five Reasons to Join CDI on blogs that allow you to share information on organizations that have worked for you, mention CDI in lectures, and/or provide a handout.
