Dear Career Professional,

Yesterday I was having a business meeting with CDI Board member Pat Schuler of The Gemini Resources Group. Our discussion led to the biggest "Ah ha!" moment I've had about making money (and making lots of it but still feeling good about it) in our industry, probably ever.

Pat and I were scheduled to brainstorm on one topic and suddenly we were piloting our way through a really simple process on how to lead prospects to be sold on buying your services. I was the guinea pig as she walked me through it, and I was getting really excited.

 

What was exciting to me is that I think I've learned to 'work my way around selling' to talk clients to death into buying my service. If you've read my $6-figure sales strategy in the CDI member's section, I simply make sure they know by the time I'm done that it's something they couldn't do themselves and thus close the sale. I'm up, positive, passionate, and energetic in my approach so I've personally been able to sell a lot of packages. But, I see the majority of my colleagues struggle to close sales bigger than just a resume and cover letter when they use this model.

 

Ouch! That is really hurting you, whether you have realized it yet or not:

 

The smaller sales you are closing are FORCING YOU to work harder and longer because you have to have 2-3 times the number of clients to make up for the revenue you could have had with each one.

 

Wouldn't it be fantastic to have more free time each week?

 

To double or triple your revenue per client?

 

To not have to take extra projects to just get by?

 

To finally have time to focus on what you've been putting off?

 

To stop saying no to the activities you don't have time for?

 

To know you were sending clients out into their job search fully equipped to succeed?

 

These are the challenges I hear almost every day from members - they are tired of working SO HARD and such long hours to get by. In other cases, their making a great income but they've got no quality of life as a result because of the sheer number of projects required to get there!

 

But, as I mentioned above, it's not just you who suffers. Your clients suffer when you cannot lead them to buy a package. Now you've not only made less money but you've got a client out there who is clueless and can't wait to blame you when the 'resume doesn't work' or 'one hour of coaching was not enough'.

 

Yikes!

 

The really magical thing I got out of my call with Pat yesterday was that IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY!
