Who is not a candidate
for this program:
If you are new to resume writing or feel
you are still getting the hang of the craft, this program will not
provide the amount of time needed to bring you up to speed. Instead,
check out CDI’s PS…You’re a
Resume Expert course. Having a resume certification to participate
in the program is not mandatory, but it is a good indication of having a
background ready for this advanced tutelage.
If you are a federal-only resume writer
or want assistance with federal resume writing, this program is not for
you. Instead, check out CDI's Certified Federal Resume Writer course.
About your mentor:
Laura DeCarlo entered her first resume
writing competition while attending her first PARW conference (1996?)
and won a first place award for Most Visually Distinctive Resume.
She entered her next competition after joining CDI (then PRWRA)
in 2000. From that competition she won ‘Most points overall’,
first place for Best Resume Format, first place for Most Creative
resume, second place for Best Resume Content, and second place for Best
Functional Resume. (She’s proud to say she and Gayle Howard
competed and both took home first place awards way back then)!
From the results of that competition, she
was asked to join the Board of Directors as VP of Awards where she
directed the awards, now called the TORIs. She later collaborated with
the new Director of Awards as CDI President to create the World’s Best
Resume Writer competition, Career Innovator Award competition, and Lifetime Achievement Award.
She has been published in over 16 resume
writing books, authored three industry books, run an award-winning
university placement program with a placement rate of 94-97% within 90
days of graduate for 7 consecutive years (much attributed to the
quality of their resumes), and traveled nationally offering
transition workshops for the US government and presenting to peer groups
and job seekers at multiple international and national
conferences.
She has guided the development of all
CDI’s resume certification programs in conjunction with the Resume
Certification committee.
She is quoted extensively on resume
writing trends by major media and has her pulse on the dynamics of
today’s winning resume.
She is one of only 21 Certified
Master
Resume Writers and one of only six Lifetime
Achievement Award winners worldwide.
During the last 19 years she has
helped thousands of job seekers to attain career success,
especially in her crazy-paced role as Resume Expert for 54
national and international professional associations. During the last nine years, she has
helped hundreds of career professionals to hone their resume writing
craft in order to attain certification, resolve client conflicts, grow
their businesses/improve their program stats, increase their earnings,
write faster, and to win TORI
awards….YOU COULD BE NEXT!
Take advantage of this unique opportunity
to work privately with the industry’s leading resume writing expert!

Why you should
want to win a TORI:
Read a few of the testimonials from
former TORI nominees and winners to get a sense of the value and power
of the competition:
"I honestly believe winning a TORI
award has been instrumental in catapulting my business to the next
level.
Being nominated or winning an award
says to a potential client 'Wow this person is a cut above, I want some
of that to rub off on me!'
Whether people have heard about TORIs
or not is immaterial. It's all about education. I proudly display my
TORI awards on my website and TELL the client of their value by saying,
'Hey look no further! I'm an award-winner!' It's one of those things
that is little work for great rewards.
It takes no time to fictionalise an
existing resume and provide a synopsis, but if you WIN or even if you
are nominated, you have strong marketing collateral that you can
repeatedly use to sing your own praises and give you that extra edge for
years at no additional cost."

TORI awards and is a 2010 TORI Judge.

"I received more press coverage for
the NOMINATION than I have received for virtually any other publicity
over the course of my 11 years in business. I can only speculate what
kind of media attention winning a TORI would have garnered.
"It's an incredible honor to even be
nominated when you consider the vast ocean of talent that exists in our
industry. It's a tremendous boost to one's confidence to have one's work
compared so favorably to that of such talented peers."
- Arnie Boldt,
Arnold-Smith Associates

"…What 'blew me away' (about the TORIs)
was the overwhelming feedback from prospective clients. I always ask in
initial communications how others heard about me. I keep track. More
than one third have indicated they contacted me after learning of my
TORI wins. The links to find out my status varied, i.e. my own website,
LinkedIn, Twitter, referrals, etc. But the message was clear; they
indicated they 'wanted the best' and my awards cemented their trust in
my capabilities to perform to this level. The TORI has been an ROI that
is quite simply, phenomenal!"

Imaging, LLC

“Yesterday I had a call from a
potential client in England who viewed the TORI winners online. He
viewed my Executive resume, called, and will be working with me. He sent
another client today! This is the very reason to take time to submit
work for the awards process. Whether a nominee or a winner, the result
is still the same: generates revenue.”

TORIs and is a 2010 TORI Judge.

*The fine print – of course we
cannot guarantee that program participation will result in a TORI as
individual skill levels will vary at program start and voting is a
confidential process taken on by ten judges who review entries blindly
(with no knowledge of the entrants). Laura DeCarlo does not have any say
in the judging process but will lend her considerable expertise into
TORI-winning resume writing in the mentorship process.
HOWEVER, in 2010, the first year this
program was offered, the majority (over 85%) of mentees were nominated
for TORIs and 75% of those won TORI awards. |
