What is a WIKI?

WIKIS are user-written and -edited websites that grow collectively as the authors write, expand, and edit its content.

Have you ever been to the www.wikipedia.com? If so, then you have viewed a comprehensive wikipedia or encyclopedia. The brief definition of the Wikipedia Project is: "a multilingual, web-based, free contentencyclopedia project. Wikipedia is written collaboratively by volunteers; its articles can be edited by anyone with access to the web site. The name is a portmanteau of the words wiki (a type of collaborative website) and encyclopedia."

What is the purpose of CDI's WIKI?

CDI's multi-faceted goal for our WIKI is to:

  1. Create a comprehensive encyclopedia of knowledge and how-to information for the careers industry;
  2. Provide CDI members with the chance to distinguish themselves and create promotional/recognition opportunities for themselves;
  3. Raise awareness about professional career service providers such as resume writers, career coaches, and recruiters;
  4. Continue positioning CDI and its members as proactive leaders in the worldwide careers marketplace.

What would participation entail?

Authors would meet regularly to start with (monthly) to discuss direction and collaborate on developing new topic areas. Once momentum is established the process will be relatively independent and authors will be able to write as much or as little, as often or as rarely, as they desire on the career industry topics for which they have expertise.

Our WIKI Guide will make the already easy authorship process extremely simple for the most non-technical individual. If you can send an email you should be able to contribute to the WIKI!

The important emphasis on authorship will be to recognize that a WIKI is like an encyclopedia and is fact-based rather than a platform for personal opinion.
